Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked most — about pricing, surveys, accreditation and each of the systems we install. Can't find your question? Ask us directly— a real person answers.
The basics
Are you MCS certified?
We are NAPIT full-scope registered, and our MCS application is in progress. We will update this page the moment certification is confirmed — in the meantime every installation is designed and certified to the standards our NAPIT registration requires.
Do you charge for quotes or surveys?
No. Online estimates, site surveys, consultations and written quotes are all free and carry no obligation.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Rainford, St Helens and work across the whole of North England, Scotland and North Wales. Distance has never stopped us taking on the right project.
Is finance available?
Yes — finance is available on installations, so you can spread the cost while the energy savings start from day one. Ask us for details when you get your quote.
Who actually does the installation?
The same team that surveys your property installs your system and looks after it afterwards — no call centres and no subcontracted crews.
Commercial SolarAbout this service →
How long does a commercial installation take?
Most commercial arrays are installed in days, not weeks — we confirm a programme in your quote and work around your operating hours.
Do you cover our area?
We cover the whole of North England plus Scotland and North Wales, from our base in Rainford, St Helens.
Can we spread the cost?
Yes — finance is available on our installations, and we offer free consultations to help you weigh up the numbers first.
What about battery storage?
We design and install commercial battery storage alongside solar, so surplus daytime generation powers your evenings instead of being exported for pennies.
Can one array supply a whole block of flats?
Yes — we’re authorised installers of SolShare, the technology that physically shares one rooftop array between flats, each through its own meter. Ideal for apartment blocks, HMOs and social housing.
EV ChargersAbout this service →
Which charger should I get?
It depends on your car, tariff and whether you have solar. We’ll recommend the right unit — tethered or untethered — in your free quote.
Can the charger use my solar?
Yes — several smart chargers can divert surplus solar into your car. Tell us you have (or want) solar and we’ll spec for it.
Is it worth pairing the charger with a home battery?
Often, yes. An EV tariff gives the whole house cheap overnight electricity — a home battery fills at that same low rate, so the car charges cheap overnight and the house runs on cheap stored energy all day. We install both, so one team designs the whole setup.
Do you install workplace chargers?
Yes, from a couple of bays to full fleet setups, across North England, Scotland and North Wales.
Battery StorageAbout this service →
Do I need solar panels to have a battery?
No — a battery works on its own. Charge it overnight on a cheap off-peak tariff and use that stored energy through the day, cutting what you pay per unit. Solar can always be added later.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar?
Almost always, yes — retrofitting batteries to existing arrays is one of our specialisms.
How long do batteries last?
Modern lithium systems are warrantied for around 10 years or more and typically keep working well beyond that.
Does a battery work in a power cut?
Some systems offer backup functionality — tell us it matters to you and we’ll design for it.
Solar PanelsAbout this service →
Is my roof suitable?
Most roofs are. Orientation, pitch and shading all matter — our free survey tells you exactly what your roof can generate before you spend a penny.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not — most domestic solar falls under permitted development. We flag the exceptions (listed buildings, conservation areas) at survey.
What warranties do I get?
Manufacturer warranties on panels, inverters and batteries, plus our own workmanship guarantee on the installation.
Heat PumpsAbout this service →
Do heat pumps work in winter?
Yes — modern units heat effectively in temperatures well below freezing and are standard across Scandinavia.
Will my radiators need upgrading?
Sometimes. Our heat-loss assessment tells you up front whether your existing radiators are suitable or need swapping.
Can it run off my solar panels?
Beautifully — solar plus battery plus heat pump is the combination we specialise in designing as one system.
EICR CertificatesAbout this service →
How often do I need an EICR?
At least every five years for rental properties in England, or at change of tenancy if the report requires it.
What if the report finds faults?
We explain every code clearly and quote separately for remedial work — you’re never obliged to use us for the fixes.
Do you handle portfolios?
Yes — we schedule and track multiple properties for landlords and agents across the North West.
